A member of the legal team representing New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Dennis “Miracles” Aboagye says the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted him bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr, a member of Aboagye’s legal team, disclosed the bail conditions in a brief social media post on Monday following the NPP official’s arrest.
“GH¢50 million with 3 sureties of which 2 will be justified. Let [us] keep this here for the future,” Botchway wrote.
The post did not indicate whether Mr Aboagye had met the bail conditions or been released from EOCO custody.
Aboagye was arrested by EOCO in connection with investigations into the alleged misappropriation of GH¢55 million linked to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), according to an earlier statement issued by the investigative body.
EOCO has said the investigation also involves Gerald Appiah, with both men being investigated over the alleged fraudulent disbursement of public funds under the committee.
The arrests have drawn reactions from the opposition NPP, whose General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has described the development as politically motivated and called for Aboagye’s immediate release.
