The Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) Ghana, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has announced plans to engage retirees who are still in good health and knowledgeable to assist in gathering information within their communities.
Addressing participants on Thursday, December 19, 2024, during EOCO’s carols service and end-of-year party in Accra, she highlighted the value of the retirees’ experience. “Last year, if you remember, we inaugurated the Retired EOCO Staff Association, so even if you retire, you are still part of us. Some of them are still strong; they know what is happening in the community, and we can use them as a source of information gathering to support our work so we don’t just let them go,” she emphasised.
COP Addo-Danquah explained that having retirees in various communities can facilitate investigations. “If you go to a community and you don’t know anybody there, and you think you have a retired EOCO staff there, you are comfortable in doing whatever you do,” she noted.
The occasion also saw the inauguration of the EOCO Ladies Association and EOCO Voices, initiatives aimed at enhancing staff welfare and boosting productivity.
COP Addo-Danquah stressed the importance of supporting female staff and creating programs tailored to their needs.
“In an institution where there are lots of ladies, the leader must make conscious efforts to improve upon their skills and motivate them to let them know it is possible for a lady to achieve whatever they want to do,” she stated.
She drew inspiration from the Police Ladies Association, which she said had yielded significant benefits for the Ghana Police Service over the past 30 years.
According to her, bringing ladies together in the form of an association and drawing up tailor-made programs will help identify their weaknesses and strengths, enhancing their potential to the advantage of the organisation.
COP Addo-Danquah also introduced the EOCO Voices, an initiative designed to leverage internal talent for events and programs, reducing the need for external hires.
“Sometimes you have a program and you need to go and hire choirs, but we will do it ourselves and also support other institutions. It’s all about enhancing the potential of the staff we have,” she said.
During the event, EOCO honoured outstanding staff members for their exceptional contributions throughout 2024.
Retirees were also recognised with tokens of appreciation for their service.
Reflecting on the importance of continuous growth, COP Addo-Danquah urged the Office to embrace introspection and learn from past experiences.
“There is always the need to improve upon one’s yesterday. We must do an introspection of our past to correct mistakes and make amends,” she said.
Also in attendance were the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah-Dame, along with his deputy, Alfred Tuah Yeboah.
