Facebook has announced that, beginning August 30, 2025, all Live videos on its platform that are more than 30 days old will be permanently deleted as part of an upcoming policy change affecting stored content.
In a notice to users, the social media giant urged individuals and businesses who wish to retain their past Live broadcasts to take immediate action. According to Facebook, users have two primary options: they can either download all their Live videos directly to their devices or transfer them to another storage destination before the deadline.
The platform emphasized the need for users to act promptly if they wish to preserve any valuable content from their past streams. “Starting August 30, your Facebook Live videos older than 30 days will be deleted,” the notice read. “If you want to keep your Live videos, you can download your Live videos all at once to your device or transfer them to a destination.”
Facebook further advised users to familiarize themselves with the storage space requirements and other alternatives available through its “Learn More” feature provided within the notice.
The move signals a shift in how Facebook manages stored media, particularly older content, as it looks to free up storage resources and streamline its services.
For content creators, influencers, and businesses who rely on Facebook Live for engagement and outreach, this development serves as a reminder to ensure proper archiving of their media assets ahead of the August 30 cutoff.
Facebook has not clarified whether future Live videos will also face a 30-day retention limit or if this change applies only to existing archives.
