Following widespread consumer complaints about the popular ice-cream fanyogo, FanMilk Ghana has recalled a number of batches of the product.

The company cited a change in the starch source and inappropriate handling of the products from the factory as the reasons for the recall.

However, the company argued that the variations in the texture of the product would not affect their safety, making reference to research results from the Food Research Institute (FRI).

In a statement on Monday, the company disclosed that their in-house scientists are still observing the product while also working with the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) to resolve the issue.

The company disclosed further that it had recalled some batches with immediate effect and requested that customers who had already purchased the product bearing the specified batch numbers return it to a nearby depot for replacement.

A few weeks ago, a number of consumers took to social media to register their displeasure about the product. The customers revealed that the product had an unusually different taste and a rough texture in its solid state.

What’s happened to FanYogo?
Bought a pack of it last weekend.
I tasted it only to realise that the texture has changed.
It’s as if the water and the concentrate has separated in the pack. Even the taste is off.
