The Fixing the Country movement has rescheduled its planned protest against former President John Dramani Mahama from November 16, 2023, to Thursday, November 21, 2023.
The organisers revealed that they have had to move the protest backward from November 16 due to the state funeral of former first lady Theresa Aba Kufuor.
In a press briefing announcing the new date, the lead convener of the Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Owusu Bempah, regretted the inability of state agencies, particularly the OSP, to demand accountability from the former president over the “infamous Airbus scandal”.
According to him, there is evidence that the leader of the NDC was involved in the alleged scandal.
“Fixing the Country Movement thought independent institutions of state, such as the office of the special prosecutor, who is mandated to delve into such matters of corruption, would have completed the investigations by now and the former president would be brought to justice. Surprisingly or sadly, the office of the Special Prosecutor continues to show a nonchalant attitude or posture towards these serious corruption cases involving the former president.”
Owusu-Bempah added that, despite several calls and petitions to the OSP to interrogate the case, nothing has been heard from the office regarding the case.
“With the series of petitions to notify the Office of the Special Prosecutor to revisit the case as a matter of public interest, we gave them a 14-day ultimatum demanding accountability or else we would demonstrate, but both the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the former president have chosen an evasive path,” Owusu Bempah added.
The protest, Ernest Owusu Bempah revealed, will begin from the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, through the Liberation Road, AU Roundabout, Parliament Road, and National Cathedral Junction to the OSP. At the OSP, the movement will present a petition to the Special Prosecutor and make some speeches.
From the OSP, the team will proceed through the Ghana Institute of Journalism and the Police Headquarters junction, through the GNFS Junction, Huawei Head Office, Morning Star School, Togo Embassy area, AU Apartment Junction, Free Zones Road, and end 300 metres away from the office of the former president.
