The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has firmly rejected claims linking its officials to the dissemination of false information regarding alleged drug trafficking activities involving two aircraft that landed at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in recent weeks.
In a press statement dated April 8, 2025, the company described the allegations — which reportedly originated from one Rev. Ntim Fodjour and have been circulating in sections of the media — as “fictitious and malicious”.
“It is important to state that landing permits of all aircraft entering Ghana are issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in conjunction with the National Security and NOT GACL,” the statement clarified.
GACL emphasized that standard security protocols were followed upon the arrival of the two aircraft in question.
“All security checks were conducted by Aviation Security and National Security while ground handling services were conducted by Swissport company for the aircraft that arrived,” the company noted, adding that there was no evidence of any illegal substances on board both aircraft.
The statement also sought to distance the Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, from any connection to Rev. Ntim Fodjour.
“The Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare does not know or has never met or spoken to Rev. Ntim Fordjour,” the company asserted.
GACL issued a strong warning to media houses and individuals propagating what it described as baseless reports.
“The onus is on the groups or individuals making false allegations to provide evidence of the same.”
“Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) hereby serves notice that the company will not hesitate to seek legal redress against any media house, individual or any other entity for any intentional or mischievous publication on Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s false allegations and related matters that seek to bring the image of the company, its Managing Director or the government into disrepute,” it said.
The company further urged the public to disregard the “fictitious” and “malicious” accusations entirely.
