It is disheartening when a government that should be working to improve the lives of its people instead chooses to persecute and harass them for political gain. President Mahama’s reckless and vindictive directive to disengage hard-working citizens who have gone through legitimate recruitment processes is an attack on fairness, justice, and the very principles of democracy.
This move is nothing short of political witch-hunting, aimed at punishing innocent Ghanaians simply because they were employed under the previous administration. But let it be made clear: Ghana belongs to all of us, not just the NDC!
The NDC must understand that public sector recruitment is a structured process, not a spontaneous event. The claim that these individuals were only employed after December 7th is misleading and a deliberate attempt to deceive Ghanaians. Even if that were the case, the law is clear: President Akufo-Addo’s mandate extended until January 7, 2025. So why is Mahama acting as if Ghana operates on an NDC timetable?
President Mahama must be reminded of the dangerous precedent he is setting. After losing the 2016 elections, he had no issues appointing an Auditor General and a Commissioner General of CHRAJ before leaving office. If he saw nothing wrong with that, what gives him the moral right to overturn legitimate employment under the previous administration? Or is it only an abuse of power when it doesn’t favour him and his party?
This is a gross abuse of power, a display of arrogance, and a clear indication that the NDC’s version of governance is one of oppression and joblessness. Ghanaians did not vote for a government that prioritises political vengeance over economic progress!
I commend the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, Esq. (Nana B), and Hon. Vincent Assefuah, Esq., MP for Tafo Constituency, for swiftly instructing their lawyers to seek legal redress for the affected individuals. This is true leadership, standing up for the rights of the ordinary Ghanaian against an oppressive regime.
I urge all well-meaning Ghanaians, civil society organisations, the media, the General Legal Council, and religious and traditional leaders to rise up and resist this injustice. If we allow this political persecution to continue unchecked, today it will be these workers, and tomorrow, it could be any of us.
Mahama and his NDC rode to power on the promise of jobs through their so-called 24-hour economy agenda. Yet, their first major action is to destroy livelihoods and render hard-working citizens jobless. Was this their real plan all along?
As the Akan adage goes, “Sɛ w’anya biribi ama wo ase a, yɛ mmɔ no krɔno.”
Ghanaians must not sit idly by and allow this injustice to stand. It is time to rise and defend our democracy!
no youth will rise against MAHAMA…. during the tenure of Npp same thing happened,so why is he complaining now…. anything biaaaa youth…. call your children to come fight against him….
