The Ghana Armed Forces has indicated it is aware of a recent accident involving some soldiers on the Suhum-Anum Apapam Road.

The statement, which was signed by Director of Public Relations, Naval Captain M. A. Larbi, noted that the personnel, who were drawn from the Southern Command, were carrying out the duties in “Operations Halt II” against illegal mining in some parts of the Eastern Region.

“The accident occurred when the military truck on which they were travelling suddenly developed a mechanical fault, causing it to tip over,” the statement clarified.

According to the statement, the 16 personnel who sustained varying degrees of injuries were initially sent to the Suhum Apapam Clinic before being moved to the Military Hospital in Accra. It added that twelve (12) have been treated and discharged while the remaining four (4) are in stable condition and responding to treatment.

The statement further thanked the residents and clinic at Anum Apapam for their support and enlisted the continued support of all towards the fight against illegal mining.
