The Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has called for an immediate full-scale investigation into alleged drug trafficking through Ghana’s ports following the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine worth an estimated $260 million in France.

Mr Fordjour, in a statement shared on social media, raised concerns about what he described as a growing pattern of major narcotics seizures involving consignments linked to Ghana.

“Ghana is fast becoming a COCAINE COAST under government complicity,” he said, alleging that the government had failed to adequately investigate previous drug trafficking incidents and prosecute those responsible.

The MP said he had raised concerns about a $500 million cocaine shipment and suspicious flights in April 2025, but accused the government of failing to investigate the matter.

“Instead of the government investigating the matter and prosecuting the culprits, the govt chose to storm my house with armed thugs under the supervision of BNI,” he alleged.

Mr Fordjour also referred to the seizure of methamphetamine worth an estimated $208 million in Australia in April 2026, saying the Interior Minister had indicated to Parliament that government officials were complicit.

“The Interior Minister indicated to Parliament that government officials were complicit yet, no government official has since being named nor prosecuted,” he stated.

His comments followed the latest seizure in France, where customs authorities intercepted nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine concealed in 167 packages inside a container carrying plastic waste from Ghana. The shipment was reportedly destined partly for Antwerp, Belgium.

The MP questioned whether the repeated seizures pointed to possible official involvement in the movement of narcotics through Ghana.

“Is the government directly facilitating these narcotics transits or benefiting from the trade, for which they have failed to take steps to disincentivize drug trafficking?” he asked.

Mr Fordjour said the reported seizures amounted to more than $1 billion in drugs intercepted in and outside Ghana’s ports in less than two years under the NDC administration led by President John Mahama.

“In less than 2 years under the NDC Mahama government, over $1billion unprecedented worth of drugs have been busted in and out of our ports and yet no government official has been fired for their failure,” he said.

He called for answers from institutions responsible for national security, border control and narcotics enforcement.

“We demand answers and full scale enquiry to be commissioned immediately,” he stated.

The MP specifically mentioned the Minister for the Interior, Minister for Transport, Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Immigration Service and the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI), saying they could not escape scrutiny and accountability.

“ This level of drug trafficking is unprecedented in our history,” Mr Fordjour said, warning that Ghana’s international reputation could suffer further if the issue was not addressed.

“Ghana’s sinking image must be salvaged quickly before degenerating into a COCAINE COAST!” he added.

French authorities have opened an investigation into the shipment and the criminal network allegedly responsible. The cocaine has since been destroyed.
