The Ghana Health Service has announced 10 new confirmed cases of Mpox, bringing the country’s total to 19.
According to the GHS, five of the individuals currently affected are receiving medical care, while no fatalities have been recorded so far.
In its latest update, the Service indicated that surveillance efforts have been intensified, particularly in regions where cases have been reported, to curb further spread of the disease.
Health authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures such as frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms — especially those with unexplained skin rashes — and reporting any suspected cases to the nearest healthcare facility.
Mpox is a viral illness transmitted from animals to humans, closely related to smallpox. Common symptoms include fever, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, back and muscle pain, and skin rashes. The virus spreads through close contact with infected persons, respiratory droplets, bodily fluids, and contaminated surfaces or objects.
The GHS assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and that timely updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
