The MakersPlace, InovTech STEM Centre, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have joined forces to organise the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, a UN-backed educational robotics championship, for the first time in Ghana on March 22, 2025, at Academic City University.
MakersPlace and InovTech STEM Centre have been appointed as the national organisers in Ghana for the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2024-2025, a global initiative of the ITU, as part of AI for Good—the leading action-orientated, global, and inclusive United Nations (UN) platform on artificial intelligence (AI).
ITU is the UN’s specialised agency for information and communication technologies.
Being held in Ghana for the first time, this challenge will showcase Ghanaian students’ robotics expertise on a global stage.
A unique opportunity to elevate Ghana’s reputation, the competition encourages students to develop robotic solutions for disaster management, a critical global issue.
The challenge highlights robots that provide practical solutions to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants will design, build, and program robots to complete missions aligned with these goals.
The focus is on Robotics for Good, particularly in addressing natural disasters such as earthquakes, seismic risk prediction, and soil and subsurface studies.
The primary objective is to enable swift intervention during disasters, minimising their impact effectively.
