Ghana and the World Bank Group have renewed their commitment to deepen development cooperation, with a focus on accelerating progress in five key sectors—education, health, energy, roads, and agriculture.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson met with the President of the World Bank Group, Ajay Banga, on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., where both leaders discussed ways to scale up support for Ghana’s economic transformation.
The discussions centred on strengthening existing World Bank–financed projects while identifying new initiatives that can deliver tangible benefits for Ghanaians across multiple sectors.
According to Dr. Forson, the renewed partnership reflects Ghana’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth. “With this renewed collaboration, we are working together to accelerate Ghana’s journey toward a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economy,” he said.
The Minister emphasised that the selected priority sectors form the foundation of Ghana’s medium- to long-term development agenda and align with the government’s vision to boost productivity, create jobs, and enhance social welfare.
Dr. Forson was accompanied to the meeting by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith.
Mr. Banga commended Ghana’s ongoing reforms and reaffirmed the World Bank’s readiness to continue supporting the country’s recovery and growth efforts. The meeting, officials say, marks an important step toward mobilising stronger partnerships and investment to advance Ghana’s national development goals.
