Ghanaians have been urged to report all suspicious activities of any individual or groups to security agencies.
This is against a backdrop of recent alarms of a potential attack on Ghana by extremist groups.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, The Minister for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, declared that the government, on its part, has beefed up its security and intelligence agencies to avert any attack on Ghana.
He disclosed that the government is aware of some Ghanaians who have been roped into the extremist groups, having picked intelligence from attacks on neighboring countries.
“Increasingly, intelligence reports suggest that some Ghanaians have been involved in terrorist attacks in the Sahelian region.” “What this signals is that there has been the possible recruitment of Ghanaians by some of these terrorist groups in the West African sub-region,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Edward Asomani, has announced that on Tuesday, the government will put out a toll-free number (999) to enable Ghanaians to report any suspicious activities.
According to him, this will complement a series of media and public education campaigns to be carried out by the Ministry of Information towards increasing awareness about the activities of terrorist groups.
