Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has described the newly launched Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) as a mission to rekindle Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s vision for industrialisation and economic transformation.
Speaking at the launch in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Bagbin said the project was not just a development initiative but a movement to advance freedom, justice, and prosperity across Africa.
He commended its alignment with Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda and called for discipline, honesty, and hard work to make the dream a reality.
“The most important element in development is the human resource, and that resource must be focused, fruitful, and committed to nation-building,” he said.
The Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone, spearheaded by Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, seeks to transform the Central Region into a commercial and industrial hub.
Covering more than 21,000 acres of secured, litigation-free land, the project is anchored on four pillars — an eco-recreational park, organic farming zones, a 24-hour business district, and an eco-industrial hub.
To enhance transparency and investor confidence, a mobile application known as Dilap has been developed to allow investors to acquire and manage land digitally, track project progress, and make payments securely.
Mr Obeng said the initiative, under the Ghana Free Zones Authority and aligned with the AfCFTA, would serve as a trade and manufacturing gateway for Africa’s 1.4 billion consumers.
He said the project was inspired by Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s early efforts to develop Gomoa into an industrial and educational hub, recalling ventures such as the Pomadze Poultry Farms and the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute, now part of the University of Education, Winneba.
Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Goosie Tanoh, described the project as 20 times the size of Germany’s industrial region and a potential catalyst for job creation, local production, and export growth.
The President of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, pledged full traditional support, while Sir Sam Jonah, Bola Ray, and other business leaders lauded the project as a bold step toward sustainable national development.
