The government has released an amount of GHC26 million to be paid to institutional suppliers for debt owed.

This was contained in a press statement from the Ministry of Education, dated April 15, 2024, and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Kwasi Kwarteng.

In the statement, the Ministry clarified that the funds will go to suppliers responsible for the supply of school uniforms, PE kits, and stationery, among others, as part of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme.

“The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce the disbursement of GHC26,000,000.00 to institutional suppliers’ responsible for the supply of school uniforms, PE kits, stationery, etc. as part of the Free Senior High School programme,  the statement said.

It added that “the amount released underscores the government’s commitment to fostering quality education and ensuring the smooth running of educational institutions.”

The Ministry further affirmed its commitment to ensuring smooth, timely, and efficient distribution of resources in the quest to improve and sustain quality education in the country.

The institutional suppliers had planned to picket at the Education Ministry on April 8, but were given assurances of payment this week, hence their decision to suspend the picketing.
