A ministerial committee to coordinate Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been inaugurated by the government.
Inaugurating the committee at the Presidency on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, said beginning the process from the Presidency demonstrated the national importance attached to the tournament.
He said planning must go beyond football.
Mr Debrah asked the committee to support the technical team, raise funds, manage travel arrangements, and protect the country’s image during the tournament.
He also directed the committee to initiate discussions with the United States Embassy to facilitate visa access for Ghanaian supporters who wish to travel for the World Cup.
According to him, embassy officials had recently expressed interest in supporting Ghanaian attendance.
“They said they are ready to ensure that as many Ghanaians as possible are able to attend,” he added.
Mr Debrah urged the committee to act without delay.
“Follow up with the appropriate officials at the American Embassy to ensure that Ghanaians are granted travel access to support the national team,” he said.
Earlier, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddi Adams, thanked the Presidency for its support during the qualification process.
He acknowledged the contributions of private sector representatives and other members of the committee.
He said the qualification process involved extensive planning and logistical coordination across various groups.
He expressed confidence that the country would perform well and portray a positive image during the tournament.
