The Ministry of Health has defended its recent postings of newly recruited medical officers, insisting the exercise is meant to ensure a fair and balanced distribution of health professionals across the country.
In a press release, the Ministry commended medical officers who have already reported to their duty stations and urged others who are yet to report to do so by Friday, December 12, 2025.
“Those who have not yet reported are kindly requested to do so by Friday, 12th December 2025,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry rejected suggestions that the postings were punitive, describing them instead as a strategic effort to strengthen healthcare delivery in underserved areas.
“The Ministry wishes to reiterate that the postings are not punitive but rather an essential measure to achieve equitable deployment of health professionals,” the statement said.
It further encouraged families and relatives to support officers who have been assigned to rural and hard-to-reach communities.
“Families and relatives of the newly posted medical officers are encouraged to support them in accepting and settling into their assigned postings, especially in the underserved areas,” it added.
The Ministry also appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to assist in retaining health workers by improving living conditions in their districts.
In particular, local authorities were asked to provide support in the form of accommodation, transport assistance and access to basic amenities.
“We call on MMDCEs to support by providing key incentives, such as accommodation, transport support, and other basic amenities, to help attract and retain medical officers,” the statement noted.
The Ministry said that the recently issued postings would not be altered.
“No changes will be made to the recent postings,” it stressed.
