The government has paid more than GH¢4.40 billion to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and towards second-tier pension obligations, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.
The minister said the payments were intended to help protect workers’ pension benefits and demonstrate the government’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations.
In a post on X, Dr Ato Forson stated: “Government has paid over GH¢4.40 billion to SSNIT and for Second-Tier Pension obligations.”
“This helps protect workers’ pensions and shows our commitment to managing public money responsibly and meeting our obligations!” he added.
The announcement follows his July disclosure, during the mid-year budget review that GH¢4 billion had been paid in contributions to the two pension schemes during the first half of 2026.
