The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down 23 health facilities across the country as part of a nationwide crackdown on unlicensed and non-compliant operators.
The enforcement exercise, which began on Monday, October 6, 2025, targets facilities operating without valid licenses, those with expired certifications, and others deemed unsafe for patients.
“This initiative is intended to uphold national healthcare standards, enhance patient safety, and protect the Ghanaian public from substandard and potentially harmful medical services,” said Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, Acting Registrar of HeFRA.
He explained that the ongoing operation forms part of a broader health sector reform led by Health Minister, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, under the government’s Resetting Agenda. The reform seeks to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and ensure that every medical facility meets the required standards for quality care delivery.
Dr. Baah emphasized that HeFRA remains committed to ensuring compliance within the health sector and urged Ghanaians to verify the licensing status of facilities before seeking medical attention.
“HeFRA urges the general public to seek services only from health facilities that are duly licensed. Licensed facilities are required to publicly display their valid HeFRA license at their premises,” he added.
Members of the public can confirm the licensing status of any facility by calling 0362296792 / 0302904027 or visiting HeFRA’s official website.
