President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang have expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians and the international community for the solidarity shown following the August 6 military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, August 18, President Mahama said he was “deeply moved” by the outpouring of sympathy, support, and acts of kindness extended to the bereaved families and the nation.

“We especially thank those who worked tirelessly and the corporate organisations that supported to ensure that the victims were accorded a dignified and befitting Ghanaian burial,” the statement read.

It added that the gesture honoured the memory of the fallen and reflected the compassion of the Ghanaian people.

The government also acknowledged the role played by traditional leaders, religious bodies, civil society, political leaders, the diplomatic corps, security chiefs, and service personnel who provided comfort and assistance during the period of national mourning.

Following the conclusion of the state funeral and the burial of all eight victims, the Chief of Staff has directed that flags at all public buildings, which had been flown at half-mast, be restored to full mast with immediate effect.

“As we return to the duties of resetting Ghana and building the Ghana we want, let us remain united in prayer, comfort one another, and continue to support the families affected by this tragedy,” the statement furthered.
