The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has declared a nationwide withdrawal of services beginning Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in protest against what it describes as months of neglect, unfair treatment, and persistent salary delays affecting its members.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Association revealed that over 200 junior doctors have been working for between 10 and 14 months without pay, while several others who were previously on government payroll have had their salaries halted without explanation.
“Moreover, we also have over 800 medical officers who have been awaiting posting for the past one year and four months,” the JDA said.
The Association stressed that it has engaged with authorities on multiple occasions and demonstrated goodwill toward the government, but no solutions have been offered.
“As a result, the continued exploitation of junior doctors will no longer be tolerated,” the association declared.
“The responsibility for any disruption of healthcare services lies squarely with the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana,” he added.
Under the directive, all junior doctors will withdraw outpatient services from Tuesday, October 7, to Thursday, October 9. From Friday, October 10, emergency services will also be withdrawn until further notice.
The statement clarified, however, that inpatients will continue to receive care until discharge, though no new cases will be admitted.
The statement urged urgent action from stakeholders to avert further escalation.
“We call on all stakeholders to act immediately to resolve these issues. Our members cannot continue working under such exploitative conditions,” the statement said.
