President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Anthony Sarpong as the acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The appointment, made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 13(1) of the Ghana Revenue Act, 2009 (Act 791), takes effect immediately, pending the constitutionally required advice of the GRA’s governing board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Mr. Sarpong succeeds Ms. Julie Essiam, the first female Commissioner-General of the GRA, who stepped down on January 20, 2025.
A seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience at KPMG Ghana, Anthony Sarpong brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. Rising through the ranks to become Senior Partner in 2019, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical acumen in auditing, financial analysis, risk management, and strategic advisory services.
In a statement, the Office of the President extended formal congratulations to Mr. Sarpong, expressing confidence in his ability to steer the GRA toward continued success and efficiency.
Mr. Sarpong is expected to leverage his vast experience to enhance the operations of the GRA, ensuring effective revenue mobilisation for national development.
