The leader of the majority group in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stepped down, confirming earlier speculations about leadership changes on his side.
The veteran MP reportedly tendered his resignation following a meeting between some members of the majority caucus and President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.
Reports about Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s replacement by Alexander Afenyo Markins dominated the media space in the aftermath of President Akufo-Addo’s first cabinet reshuffle last week.
However, this was refuted by a leading NPP member and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Wusu. According to Hon. Osei Wusu, the majority of respondents were not aware of any such potential changes.
The majority, in conjunction with the National Executive Committee of the NPP, is expected to announce a replacement for the MP for Suame.
It is, however, unclear whether other leaders of the majority Caucas will exit too.
Meanwhile, the Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been named by Dr. Bawumia’s campaign as the Chairman of the Manisfesto Committee.
