The Management of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) will from Monday pay cash grants to some 344,389 households for its 77th and 78th cycle of disbursements.
In a statement signed by the head of the secretariat, Myles Ongoh, about 1.5 million people would benefit from the households’ benefit from these payment cycles, with some households having beneficiaries of between 1 and 5 or more.
It noted that households would receive double the payments bi-monthly from the outstanding cycle of 77 and the current cycle of 78, with payments being made via e-zwich.
The statement further disclosed, “One eligible household will receive double GHC 64; two eligible members will receive double GHC 76; then three eligible members will receive double GHC 88; finally, a household with four or more eligible members will receive double GHC 106,” the statement further disclosed.
The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program, introduced by the Kufuor-led administration in 2008 is aimed at making cash available to the poorest households in Ghana with the goal of reducing poverty by smoothing consumption and promoting human capital development.
Among the qualifying households include orphan and vulnerable children, persons aged 65 years and above without support, persons with severe disabilities who cannot work, and very poor pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
