President John Dramani Mahama has announced a ban on first-class travel for all government appointees as part of his administration’s efforts to promote modesty and reduce government expenditure.
The directive was made public during the swearing-in ceremony of 17 new ministers at the Jubilee House on February 7, 2025.
President Mahama emphasized that all nonessential travel is banned with immediate effect, and any essential travel must be approved by the Office of the Chief of Staff.
He stated, “Travels must be undertaken in modesty; no first-class,” underscoring his commitment to fiscal discipline.
The president highlighted that his administration will prioritise the prudent use of state resources, warning that extravagance and wastefulness will not be tolerated.
“The resources you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office,” he stressed, urging officials to uphold integrity and accountability.
Mahama also announced that a special committee is auditing the use of state resources by previous administrations. Upon receiving the committee’s report, the president assured that necessary actions would be taken against individuals found guilty of mismanaging public funds.
He further reiterated his resolve to hold government officials to the highest standards of accountability, ensuring that state resources are utilised solely for improving the lives of Ghanaians and addressing the country’s economic challenges.
