President John Mahama has underscored the critical role of communication in shaping society as Ghana embraces rapid technological change, particularly the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to rural communities.
Speaking at the 2025 PR Knowledge Sharing Conference, organised by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana in collaboration with key partners at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, the President said technology must be guided by responsible, inclusive communication to deliver lasting benefits.
The three-day event, which began on Wednesday, 1st October, was held under the theme “Global Realities and Innovative Communication”.
“Their message is clear: technology must work for the people. And to do so, communication must be at the centre of this mission,” President Mahama stated, stressing that without effective communication and enforcement, “the vision of a peaceful, progressive, and connected society cannot be realised.”
He urged the media—both traditional and digital—to rise above misinformation, avoid sensationalism, and instead champion public education.
“When communication breaks down, misunderstanding takes its place. And where there is misunderstanding, peace is threatened,” he cautioned.
The President also highlighted the potential of Ghana’s cultural and natural heritage, calling for innovative storytelling to market the nation’s rich tourist sites to the world.
“We must remember the beauty and potential of our nation,” he said, urging stakeholders to use communication as a vehicle to showcase Ghana globally.
President Mahama reminded participants of the conference’s broader purpose, saying, “Communication is not just a tool. It is a bridge—connecting ideas, people, and possibilities. And it is only through that bridge that we can build a better, more peaceful world.”
