Residents of Mankessim and its environs were thrown into a state of shock and sorrow when, on Tuesday, a pastor led some investigators to the house of the Tufohene of Ekumfi Akwakrom in the Central Region to exhume the mortal remains of one Georgina Asor Botchwey, a trainee nurse.
According to reports, the pastor and the chief, who collaborated in kidnapping the victim, later killed her and buried her in one of the rooms of the chief, who is currently at large.
The mortal remains of the trainee nurse had been buried for about three weeks.
Due to this incident, fear has gripped the residents of Ekumfi Akwakrom since it involves a chief of the town. Additionally, the Assembly Member for the area, Cephas Arthur, has called on the Inspector General of Police to strengthen the security in Mankessim and its environs.
According to the Assembly Member, this is not the first incident to occur in the area but the 5th, adding that the law should deal with the pastor and the chief if they are found culpable.
The mortal remains of the deceased have been deposited at the teaching hospital’s Cape Coast morgue for an autopsy.
In the meantime, the main suspect in the killing of a woman who was buried in the kitchen of a residential flat in the Central Region town of Sikafuambantem has been apprehended at his hiding place at Akwakrom in the Ekumfi District.
He was detained by a team of officers from the Mankessim District Police Command and has since been sent to the Regional Police Command in Cape Coast to assist with investigations.
This gruesome killing comes after a series of alleged ritual killings in Wa, in the Upper West Region, which the Police Administration is keenly following as well.
