Former President John Dramani Mahama has poured out his frustration with his party’s inability to get most court rulings in their favour.
He accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of packing the higher courts with judges who are members of the NPP while blocking entry for those who are not in agreement with the government.
“Currently, the judiciary is packed with NPP-inclined judges because this government has carried out a deliberate policy of putting their people onto the bench,” he lamented.
The NDC flagbearer for the 2024 elections alleged a higher proportion of judges, numbering over 80, are NPP-biased and appointed by President Nana Akufo Addo to pursue his interests while in government and when he leaves office.
“He has appointed the biggest number of judges onto the bench; it is more than 80 towards 100 and counting. You can see what the current president has done. He has packed the court, and we know they have packed the court because they want to avoid accountability after they have left office.”
He charged the leadership of the NDC to work towards getting more of its members into the legal profession, which can enhance their chances of getting more admittance onto the bench.
Mr. Mahama made these assertions during the Third Annual Lawyers Conference of the NDC at Akosombo in the Eastern Region on Saturday.
