Some trainees of the Nation Builders Corps have expressed their angst at the government for their failure to fulfill promises made to them.
A group named “The Coalition of Nabco Trainees” served notice that they would go on demonstration should the government fail to meet their demands by June 10th, 2022.
In a statement issued on Monday, the coalition demanded that all arrears up to 7 months of the monthly stipend of GHC 700 be paid. They also demanded an immediate return as permanent workers, having served their maximum number of years per the conditions governing the apprenticeship scheme.
The coalition noted that they have missed opportunities they could have explored elsewhere as a result of the government’s directive to remain at post while it arranges to make their positions permanent.
“Our hope in the career exit pathway has been truncated with undue delays and retardedness of the government in fulfilling their promise of migrating us into permanent mainstream work and resourcing energetic trainees for entrepreneurship,” the coalition said.
They added that, “seven months down the line, we were directed to remain at post, pending permanent arrangements.” “We have worked assiduously, but unfortunately on an empty stomach, accruing to the sum of GHC 4900.”
According to them, life has become unbearably hard due to the government’s unwillingness to address their concerns, indicating several meetings and calls to authorities have not been fruitful.
The group plans on going on an “unprecedented” and “massive” demonstration against the government if their demands are not met by June 10th, 2022.
