The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across the country, citing multiple regulatory infractions, with Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited among the hardest hit.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the NCA said the action followed the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to address breaches of Ghana’s FM broadcasting laws.
Wontumi Multimedia, owned by Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, had three of its stations — 95.9FM in Accra, 101.3FM in Kumasi, and 101.3FM in Takoradi — suspended for operating without a Certificate of Compliance, in violation of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991). The breaches also included the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter sites.
The other six affected stations, including Donplus Multimedia Limited in Ho and Dreams Ghana Media Limited in New Abirem, failed to take any remedial steps during the amnesty period, resulting in their suspension.
The NCA noted that while many stations worked to correct their compliance issues during the grace period, the nine in question either “failed, refused, or neglected” to comply fully.
