The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially begun the party’s 2024 election campaign with a launch in Tamale in the Northern Region.

NDC National Executives and other party bigwigs were present at the Jubilee Park event, which had as its theme “Change to Reset Ghana.”

Speakers at the event included MPs from various constituencies, campaign team officials of flagbearer John Mahama, the General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, the Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Running Mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, and the Flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama.

For his address, John Dramani Mahama said he would work hard to fix the country should he be elected as the president in the upcoming polls.

He said that the NDC has men and women who can turn the fortunes of the country around, asserting that he can use 4 years to bring back stability to the economy.

“I believe that four years is enough to reset the country so that future generations can come and build on it.”

He criticised the Akufo-Addo government for running down the economy, resulting in significant hardships among the Ghanaian people.

According to him, he will prioritise jobs in his administration, leveraging his proposed 24-hour economy to create jobs for the youth.

“My first priority will be job creation so that we can create jobs for the youth of this country, and that is why I’m proposing the 24-hour economy policy,” he said.

He urged all NDC party supporters to volunteer to campaign massively for the party, stay alert until the declaration of the results, and resolve to protect every vote in favour of the NDC.

“Everybody is going to volunteer; we are not going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots are counted, and I can promise you that we will protect every single vote,” he said.

Mr. Mahama pledged that appointees under his new administration will be subjected to the principles of modesty, honesty, hard work, and accountability, adding that they will be held accountable and punished for any wrongdoing.

“It’s not going to be business as usual for those who wish to serve in my new administration. Know that you are coming to serve in an administration of modesty, honesty, hard work, and accountability, and so as we hold the previous government appointees accountable for wrongdoings, if you serve in the next John Mahama government and you are accused of wrongdoing, you will also be punished and held accountable,” he said.

He concluded his speech by officially lashing the party’s national campaign.

“On this occasion as the flagbearer of the NDC, I declare the NDC campaign duly and officially launched,” John Mahama stated and rallied supporters to adopt a house-to-house approach in selling the vision of the party to the electorates.

The flagbearer revealed that the party will launch its manifesto by the end of August in the Central Region.
