The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has firmly rejected the re-collated parliamentary election results announced by the Electoral Commission (EC) for several constituencies, describing the declaration as illegal and manipulated.
In a statement released on Saturday, the party accused the EC of engaging in actions that undermine Ghana’s democracy and betray the will of the people.
“These results, declared under questionable and illegal circumstances, represent a blatant assault on Ghana’s democratic principles,” the NDC said.
The opposition party criticised the leadership of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, alleging that her administration has consistently acted with “illegality and impunity.”
According to the NDC, the EC’s conduct has eroded public trust in the electoral process, noting that “Electoral crimes have no expiry date, and the date of reckoning will come.”
The party further accused Jean Mensa and her team of being complicit in destabilising the country to serve the interests of political allies.
“Jean Mensa and her team appear determined to plunge this country into chaos to satisfy the interests of their political benefactors,” the NDC stated.
While urging its supporters to remain calm, the NDC condemned the alleged collaboration between the EC, police, and military leadership in manipulating the results.
“This unholy alliance has facilitated the unlawful manipulation of election results and tarnished the credibility of these institutions,” the statement read.
The party also highlighted the EC’s disregard for a stay of execution order, describing the move as a violation of the law, noting that the illegal action underscores the EC’s complicity in a broader scheme to undermine Ghana’s democracy.
The statement expressed disappointment in the National Peace Council and other moral authorities for their silence, suggesting it emboldens the EC’s actions. The NDC called on the international community to monitor the situation closely, warning that the EC’s conduct threatens Ghana’s stability.
“The NDC will not relent in its fight to defend the will of the people and ensure justice prevails,” the party said, vowing to continue mobilising supporters to resist any attempt to overturn the election outcome.
The party further pledged to restore integrity to Ghana’s electoral process when it formally assumes office on January 7, 2025, emphasising that the voices of Ghanaians, expressed in the December general elections, must be respected.
