From October 3, 2025, cocoa farmers will receive a GHS400 increase per bag, representing a 12.27% rise in the producer price.
This is because the government has set the new price at GHS3,625 per bag, or GHS58,000 per tonne, for the 2025/26 cocoa season.
The decision followed extensive consultations by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) on Cocoa, chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
“Government has listened carefully to the concerns of stakeholders, especially our hard-working cocoa farmers, and has taken steps to ensure they receive fair value for their efforts,” Dr Forson said in the statement.
Margins, fees, and rates to other stakeholders, including the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), remain unchanged. According to the Finance Minister, COCOBOD will intensify interventions to support farmers through the free supply of fertilisers, insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
Dr Forson also highlighted the government’s broader commitment to improving farmer welfare.
“COCOBOD remains on track to roll out the new Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers in the 2026/27 academic year,” he noted.
He added that the government’s priority is to build a sustainable and resilient cocoa industry that guarantees long-term benefits for all stakeholders.
“Our focus is to strengthen Ghana’s cocoa sector so it continues to provide sustainable and optimal returns, not just for farmers but for the entire economy,” the minister stressed.
