The National Media Commission says it has given outspoken morning show host Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, and his employers the last opportunity to right their wrongs on air.

In a letter to the management of the station, NMC recounted previous warnings in December 2022 over inciteful language used by Captain Smart on Onua TV and Onua FM.

The Commission described certain remarks by Smart as unprofessional and dangerous.

In a recent broadcast as well, Captain Smart accused the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other officers of the Ghana Armed Forces of keeping monies meant to be disbursed to soldiers on peacekeeping missions, while describing the CDS as a “beast.”

The Commission said it has given the presenter and management of Onua TV and Onua FM several opportunities to correct their acts of unprofessionalism, but to no avail.

In a final warning notice dated November 14, 2022, NMC has demanded that Captain staff and the Onua brand withdraw and apologise to the CDS for the insult, apologise to Ghanaians, and put in place measures to curb the use of unprofessional behaviour on their platform.

The Commission gave the media house a deadline of November 19, 2023.

Last week, the NMC warned Power FM for encouraging the use of abusive language against the Second Lady, H.E. Samira Bawumia, and the Fulani Community on one of their radio shows.
