The Public Relations Officer of the Itrotro News, organisers of “The Drivers Challenge,” an upcoming TV reality show, David Mfum-Ware, reveals that the purpose of their new project is to honour and appreciate the efforts of drivers across the country.
Unveiling the event on Friday, 9th August 2024, he said he and his team have carefully considered and decided that they need to organise this reality show to acknowledge drivers and pique the interest of youths in serving in the profession.
“I think it was said there that we’ve fallen short of [good] drivers, so now somebody brought the idea that we ought to appreciate drivers, so we want to appreciate drivers that what they have done for us and keep doing for us is fantastic and awesome.”
Explaining the concept of the show to the media, Mr. Mfum said that two drivers will be taken from each region, and they must be drivers who have registered with any recognisable driver union groups, such as the GPRTU, and out of the two from each region, 16 will be evicted along the way, and the other 16 go into the finals in Accra.
“We are going to have them from the districts; they are going to buy forms from the GPRTU, and out of the systems we’ve put in place, we will have them together and choose two from each region.”
“We will bring them to Accra, we will house them, and we will have a reality show where some of the members will be evicted,” Mfum-Ware explained.
He disclosed further that the overall winner will take home a minibus, and the others presented with consolation prizes.
The PRO also ceased the opportunity to solicit for sponsors to come on board to help the show come to pass.
At the same event, Dr. Foster Ansong Bridjan, Acting Director of Operations at the National Ambulance Service, expressed his full support for the program, citing its focus on driver education.
He believes that the National Ambulance Service’s work will be easier with educated drivers, who can provide first aid to victims of road carnage before their team arrives.
“We commend Itrotro News for this laudable project in the sense that for us at the National Ambulance Service, our role is to take care of those who are involved in road crashes, and we believe that if we train drivers who are going to take part in this challenge, it will help us, especially when accidents happen on the roads. It is drivers who always get there on time.”
“So we will educate them to know what they should do in case there are any road traffic crashes and also to call us in time by dialling our emergency number 112 so that the ambulance will just be on their way to come and help rescue those involved in the crashes,” Dr. Bridjan observed.
