The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has asked striking university workers to return to duty while they resume negotiations with authorities.
According to NUGS, this will foster a conducive working environment while alleviating the burden on students.
“Understanding the importance of dialogue, NUGS calls upon both the government and the unions to engage in immediate and constructive negotiations,” NUGS said in a statement on Wednesday.
“While we respect the rights of the unions to advocate for their members, we emphasise the significant impact this strike has on the academic well-being of students across the country,” the statement added.
The union called for a consultative approach to addressing the issues of the university workers in a manner that is satisfactory to all parties.
“NUGS advocates for a comprehensive stakeholder engagement involving government representatives, university management, and the concerned unions. A collaborative approach is vital in understanding the complexities of the issues and arriving at sustainable solutions that address the legitimate concerns of all parties involved.”
