The Ministry of Health has announced the payment of arrears owed to newly recruited nurses, while also providing an update on ongoing efforts to recruit thousands of additional health workers across the country.
In a press release, the Ministry confirmed that it has settled two-month arrears due to newly recruited nurses as part of its commitment to improving conditions of service within the health sector.
“The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce that, in line with its commitment, two-month arrears for newly recruited nurses have been duly paid,” the statement said.
It further assured affected personnel that additional payments are scheduled in the coming months, clarifying that “the next payment will be made for 3 months each, from May to July 2026 as announced earlier.”
According to the Ministry, the move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the health workforce and improve service delivery nationwide. It noted that government plans to recruit about 16,000 health workers this year, with financial clearance already secured for approximately 8,000 of them.
“No health worker will be engaged without financial provision,” the release emphasized, underscoring the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline in the recruitment process.
The Ministry added that the approved clearances have been distributed across various health cadres to facilitate a gradual absorption of personnel into the system.
On recruitment processes, the Ministry reiterated that the official recruitment portal remains the only recognized channel for applications, aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness.
“The recruitment portal remains the sole and official channel for all recruitment processes; this measure is intended to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability,” it stated.
However, it acknowledged challenges arising from the high volume of applicants, with some users experiencing difficulties accessing the portal. The Ministry said it is working to resolve these issues and secure additional clearances to accommodate more qualified applicants.
It assured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to address concerns and streamline the recruitment process as part of its broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.
