BudgIT Ghana will launch its Simplified 2026 Budget Statement alongside a high-level stakeholder engagement for civil society, media actors and development partners on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Mensvic Hotel in Accra.
The event, scheduled for 9:00am GMT, forms part of the organisation’s continued push to advance fiscal transparency and strengthen citizen participation in public finance. It will be held under the theme: “From Policy to People; Understanding Ghana’s 2026 Budget.”
A sub-theme, “Empowering Citizens through Budget Transparency and Accountability,” will guide discussions aimed at improving how stakeholders interpret and use budget data to promote accountability and inclusive development outcomes.
According to BudgIT Ghana, the engagement is designed to move participants beyond basic interpretation of fiscal documents towards “more strategic, evidence-based engagement that drives accountability and inclusive development outcomes.” The organisation said this is necessary in an increasingly complex fiscal environment where citizens must be equipped with the tools to understand government spending and policy commitments.
A key highlight of the programme will be the official launch of BudgIT Ghana’s Simplified 2026 Budget Analysis and Citizen’s Budget. For the first time, the publication will also be translated into Twi and Dagbani to expand accessibility and reach audiences across both northern and southern Ghana as part of its civic education and inclusivity agenda.
The simplified documents are expected to “transform technical budget provisions into clear, accessible, and actionable insights,” bridging the gap between policy formulation and public understanding.
The event will also feature Mrs. Janet Abiola Afolabi-Sosami, International Growth Director of the BudgIT Foundation, who will share insights on civic innovation and public finance reform. She is expected to highlight how data visualisation, civic education and storytelling can be leveraged for citizen mobilisation and policy influence.
In addition, civic-tech partner Kambale Museveni of the Beyond AI Partnership will lead a capacity-building session on using artificial intelligence to track and understand government expenditure.
BudgIT Ghana says the initiative reinforces its commitment to a transparent and participatory fiscal ecosystem where “public resources are not only openly communicated, but actively scrutinised and shaped by an informed and empowered citizenry.”
