The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it is assessing allegations of extortion and related conduct made against Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi.

In a public notice issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, the OSP said it had taken note of the allegations and petitions submitted in connection with the matter.

The anti-corruption agency said it had received a joint petition from two individuals, as well as two separate petitions from other persons, all relating to the allegations against the Minority Leader.

“Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted,” the statement said.

The notice does not indicate that the OSP has commenced a formal investigation or made any finding against Mr Afenyo-Markin.

The allegations come amid an increasingly heated political dispute involving Mr Gyamfi and the Minority Leader, who have publicly clashed over issues concerning GoldBod and the government’s management of the gold sector.

The OSP’s assessment will determine whether the allegations fall within its jurisdiction and whether they provide sufficient grounds for further investigative action.

The office urged no conclusions to be drawn at this stage, as the assessment process is yet to establish whether any formal investigation will follow.
