The Ministry of Health has announced that salary payments have begun for newly recruited nurses across the country, with more than 6,000 already receiving their entitlements out of a total cohort of 13,500.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Ministry said the payments cover nurses recruited nationwide and assured that all outstanding matters related to remuneration would be resolved.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the public that over 6,000 newly recruited nurses have received their salaries, covering the full cohort of 13,500 nurses recruited nationwide,” the statement said.
The Ministry explained that the remaining nurses who have not yet received their pay are undergoing routine administrative processing and urged calm among affected personnel. According to the statement, all unresolved issues are being worked on internally.
“The Ministry assures all stakeholders that all outstanding administrative matters will be duly addressed,” it added.
The update follows weeks of public concern from affected nurses who complained about delays in salary processing after assumption of duty. Some had earlier taken to social media to decry financial hardship linked to the delays.
The Ministry did not provide a specific timeline for when all salary-related issues would be completely resolved but insisted that the process is ongoing and progressing steadily.
Health sector analysts say delays in remuneration could negatively affect morale among young professionals entering the system, especially in remote postings where living costs remain high.
The Ministry has called for patience as it works to conclude documentation and clearance procedures.
