Ghanaians have marked the 2023 edition of Green Ghana Day with a pledge by President Akufo-Addo to conserve the environment and minimize the impact of the global climate crisis.
The target for this year was to plant 10 million seedlings, two times last year’s target.
This year’s celebration took place at the University of Ghana, Legon.
Speaking at the program, President Akufo-Addo reminded Ghanaians about the far-reaching effects of the global climate crisis, including health and general wellbeing, livelihoods, and security.
While lauding initiatives such as the Green Ghana Project, the President urged all individuals and organisations to support same.
Various speakers, including the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, took turns to stress the importance of planting more trees and actively protecting the environment in the face of a worsening global climate.
