The police have arrested five Chinese suspects in a special police operation conducted between the night of September 7th till the dawn of September 8th, 2022.

The suspects, Shi Zhong Qix, Wei Lin Xi, Huang Qian Xi, Li Jian Wen, and Huang Qian Sheng, were arrested via an intelligence-led operation through the night of September 7th till the dawn of September 8th, the police disclosed.

The police stated that they have contacted the Ghana Immigration Service to provide further details of the suspects and their Ghanaian sponsors to assist them with their investigation.

In the meantime, the DCE for Ellembelle, who was arrested yesterday for blocking the police from recovering an excavator, Kwasi Bonzo, has been granted police enquiry bail.

The issue of Chinese involvement in “Galamsey” activities has dominated the headlines over the past few days.

Last Friday, “Galamsey” lead Aisha Huang (also referred to as En Huang) was remanded in custody by the Accra High Court on charges of mining without a license and engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a license, the second time after 2017, which saw her deportation from the country.

Three other Chinese nationals, namely Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun, were also charged with illegally trading in minerals without a license.

On Wednesday, the Attorney General disclosed that it had requested new dockets on Ms. Huang and her accomplices to begin prosecutions of both old and new crimes.
