The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to a statement issued by the Police, the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, while the suspect reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters the following day.
Police said Israel Kwadwo Safo was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
The statement indicated that a search conducted on his vehicle and residence at Kwabenya led to the retrieval of a cache of ammunition and firearms.
Items recovered included 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, additional loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which is registered.
The Police further disclosed that investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
“All the suspects are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations and will be put before the court on 23rd June 2026,” the statement said.
The arrests come a day after reports emerged that the former lawmaker had sustained gunshot wounds in an incident reportedly linked to a dispute following the death of her father, Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo, founder of Kristo Asafo.
