The Ghana Police Service says it has expanded its investigation into a viral TikTok video in which threats were allegedly directed at President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama, now linking the case to the unlawful possession of firearms and the circulation of false information about a recent military helicopter crash.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, police identified four individuals who are currently in custody: Daniel Adomako, also known as Sir Obama Pokuase; Prince Ofori; Yayra Abiwu; and Emmanuel Kwaku Kwakye. Investigators say the first three were originally connected to the video in which threats were issued, while Mr Adomako and Mr Kwakye are also being questioned over the alleged possession and public display of high-grade weapons.
The police disclosed that the arrests followed weeks of intelligence-led operations, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, which led to the seizure of a significant stockpile of illegal arms and ammunition. Officers are now reviewing online photos and videos believed to feature the confiscated weapons.
Officials added that the three suspects initially linked to the threats are also facing further scrutiny for allegedly spreading false claims and making fresh threats after the 6 August helicopter crash, which killed eight people, including two cabinet ministers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, who heads the Police Public Affairs Directorate, reiterated the service’s commitment to ensuring public safety and upholding the law.
She stressed that the suspects will be dealt with in accordance with due process and urged citizens to share reliable information that could assist ongoing investigations.
