The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has confirmed that the X (formerly Twitter) account of Ghana’s president, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, was compromised in the early hours of March 17, 2025.
The breach resulted in unauthorised posts promoting a cryptocurrency called “Solana Africa.”
In a press release issued by the CSA, the authority assured the public that it was actively investigating the incident and working in collaboration with X and other relevant stakeholders to secure the account and prevent future breaches.
The incident sparked widespread concern, with many Ghanaians expressing alarm over the potential cybersecurity risks associated with high-profile accounts being compromised.
Shortly after the CSA’s statement, President Mahama announced that his account had been successfully restored. In a post on X, he stated, “My team has restored my account, working with the X support team. Thank you for your enquiries and offers to assist. #LetsBuildGhanaTogether.”
The CSA has pledged to provide further updates as the investigation progresses and reiterated the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect digital assets, especially those of high-ranking officials.
