The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has announced the appointment of Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective Monday, July 14, 2025.
Prof. Opuni, who previously served as Chairman of the FDA Board, takes over from Dr. Delese Darko, who has led the Authority since 2017. Dr. Darko has recently assumed a new continental role as Director-General of the Africa Medicines Agency (AMA).
In a statement posted on social media, the FDA extended its congratulations to Prof. Opuni, expressing confidence in his leadership to further the Authority’s mission of protecting public health and safety.
The Authority described Prof. Opuni’s appointment as a continuation of its efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance the integrity of Ghana’s food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Prof. Opuni is expected to bring his expertise and experience from both academia and regulatory affairs to bear as he steers the FDA through its next phase of growth and reforms.
