The Tamale High Court has convicted two people of contempt of court over the Jahori lands.
The two were found guilty of contempt by the court and ordered to serve a 30-day sentence and pay a fine of GHC 6,000 for the contempt.
The court was presided over by His Lordship Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah, who ruled on the 30-day and a fine of GHC 6,000 sentence for respondents for contempt for failing to comply with the court order.
Counsel for the Jahori clan, Stephen Obeng Darko, said the case has been lingering since 2020, and judgment was awarded to the Jahori people in October 2021.
Lawyer Darko noted, however, that the defendants failed to comply with certain aspects of the judgment because the court had made a judgment in favor of the Jahori people, ordering the defendants to give up possession of the land and render accounts for monies received from their tenants.
According to him, six months after the delivery of the judgment, the respondents failed, refused, and neglected to comply with the orders of the court.
The Jahori clan filed for contempt, which was upheld by the Tamale High Court on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
