Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has announced that her second attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest individual singing marathon was not successful.
In an official statement issued through ASKOF Productions Ltd., Afua extended her appreciation to Ghanaians and the wider international community for the encouragement and support she received throughout the process.
She described the journey as both challenging and enlightening, noting that it offered valuable opportunities for growth and personal development.
Guinness World Records provided detailed feedback explaining the reason for the disqualification. The organization stated that the attempt did not meet the strict rest break requirements outlined in the official guidelines.
According to GWR, the rules permit a 5-minute rest break for every hour of continuous activity. However, during the attempt, Afua exceeded the permitted rest time on multiple occasions—taking a 15-minute break when only 5 minutes were accrued, and later a 105-minute break with just 10 minutes of allowable rest.
The statement from Guinness emphasized the need for consistent rule enforcement to ensure fairness among all record attempts worldwide.
Despite the outcome, Afua maintained a composed and positive outlook, indicating that the experience had been worthwhile. “We will continue to make steady progress,” she stated, while expressing sincere thanks to her team, partners, and numerous supporters. Acknowledgements were extended to Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II and other partners both locally and abroad.
Afua Asantewaa previously attracted widespread attention for her first sing-a-thon attempt, which took place in late 2023.
Her second effort, held in Kumasi and dubbed “Sing-A-Thon 2.0,” garnered similar public interest and mobilized significant national goodwill.
