The National Communications Authority (NCA) says it has not licenced the newly launched satellite internet service provider, Starlink.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being constructed by SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk, who also owns the popular social media platform X.
In a statement on December 7, 2023, the NCA said that it has not sanctioned the operations of the company nor has it approved the use of their equipment.
“We wish to inform the general public that the NCA has neither licenced the operations of Starlink in Ghana nor type-approved any of their equipment.”
“Any entity that provides electronic communication services in Ghana without a licence or authorization from the NCA is in direct violation of Section 3(1) of the Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775, which states that, except as otherwise provided under this Act, a person shall not operate a public electronic communications service or network or provide a voice telephony service without a licence granted by the Authority,” the statement added.
The Authority urged the public to refrain from patronising the equipment or services of Starlink while warning vendors against the sale of their products.
