On the International Day of Education, ICDP Ghana joins the global community to reaffirm
that quality education is not a privilege but a fundamental right for every child, woman,
and girl.
In many rural and underserved communities across Ghana, children begin school without the
emotional support, stimulation, and caregiver engagement that are essential for learning. Girls
and women—especially young mothers, caregivers, and out-of-school girls—often face
compounded barriers that limit their access to meaningful education, skills development, and
opportunities for growth.
At ICDP Ghana, we understand that quality education goes beyond classrooms, textbooks,
and examinations. It begins in the home, in the relationship between caregiver and child,
and in the community environment that nurtures curiosity, confidence, empathy, and
resilience. Through ICDP’s Empathy-Based Approach, the 8 Guidelines for Good
Interaction, and the Three Dialogues, we work with parents, teachers, community volunteers,
and women’s groups to create emotionally supportive environments where children are ready
to learn and girls are empowered to thrive.
We believe that:
• A child who feels seen, heard, and valued learns better.
• A girl who is supported emotionally and socially stays longer in school.
• A woman who is empowered with knowledge and skills becomes a stronger
caregiver, educator, and community leader.
From early childhood centres to rural communities, from caregiver training sessions to
women’s savings groups, ICDP Ghana is strengthening the foundations of learning by
integrating Social and Emotional Learning, caregiver education, and community support
systems into everyday life.
As Ghana and the world work toward achieving SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5:
Gender Equality, ICDP Ghana calls on partners, educators, policymakers, and communities
to recognise that investing in children, women, and girls is investing in the future of our
nation.
This International Day of Education, we recommit to ensuring that every child grows up in a
nurturing environment, every girl has the opportunity to learn and lead, and every woman is
equipped to support the next generation of learners.
Education starts with empathy. Education starts at home. Education starts with us.
